I’m loving training here in San Diego and I love my new attitude of keeping my life balanced and keep training fun. I love being more spontaneous. It keeps training fresh and takes the pressure off. But I’ve been making sure to at least get two workouts of each sport in each week, and always a short run off the bike. What I’m learning is muscle memory is real. Somehow with less swim training, I have improved more than I ever thought possible. I did another swim test last week and improved big time again! I averaged 4:29/300, which is averaging 1:29/100. I dropped almost 15sec off per 300 since my last swim test a month ago. Balance pays off. Here are some pics from the past couple weeks!

Trainer ride! Yes, I still ride the trainer. I like to mix it up and I know most people think I’m crazy, but I really do love the trainer.

Push Up contest. I got 2nd with 70.

Chillin’ by the pool, reading the Steve Jobs biography. It’s so good!

Stopped to see this view after a run.

Taking Night Rider out for a spin.

Love trainer rides in SD because I can still be outside! Plus I get to listen to music when I ride the trainer:)

My favorite post workout food right now. Eggs and pico de gallo!

Balance the training out with some “manmosas”

Love my Oakley Dart sunglasses!
6 weeks to go til race day!!!

I will agree with you in that using the trainer on San Diego is a bit odd, but you have a point; it does have it’s benefits from time to time. At 30 degrees, I’m still stuck on the trainer in CT, but I’ll hop off it the moment it gets warm enough. Love the B12 though!!

Heck yeah! That’s some sweet improvement in the swim!!! I’m a big fan of mixing it up and doing different things to balance. Plus, I love the trainer too, and one reason is to listen to music like you! Keep up the good work!

Hi Katie. I loved this post and wanted to say hi. We’re friends on Facebook but have never spoken to each other and after reading this felt it was time to change that.
I’m also training to compete for my first year in tri concentrating on short distances and a half Ironman at the end of the year. My goal is to go pro next year knowing that means I have to work super hard all year.
I live in London and training here isn’t ideal due to the cold. I lived in Italy for 6 years where training was much better, I’ve always been a runner which is my passion. I’m originally from Atlanta, and find myself wishing I’d moved to Cali instead of Europe because I love heat and training in it really drives me, so you’re really lucky.
Check out my website, triathleteonline.com, I’ve been doing it since last summer and it’s going well. Maybe you’d like to post an article on yourself. I would be happy to publish it.
Anyway, I’ve bored you long enough. Good luck training and say hi on FB.
