I am a huge country music fan. My love of country music started out because of my dad. Let me tell you a little story about my dad:
My dad grew up wanting to be a cowboy. Seriously. That was his dream. He has read every book that has been written by Louis L’Amour. Some of his favorite movies are:
- Quigley Down Under
- Lonesome Dove
- City Slickers
- The Man from Snowy River
- Legend of the Fall
- Dances with Wolves
- Last of the Mohicans
These are some of the family favorites. I’m sure my dad loves a lot of the oldies, but these are the ones I remember watching with him. I have seen each of these at least a handful of times. They are classics. Anyway, my dad loved westerns so much he decided to go on a cattle drive trip with his cousin, Taylor, in Wyoming, and try to become an actual “cowboy”. So, they hired a “cowboy”, got some horses, and headed out west. There are too many stories to mention on this trip, but the two big ones are:
- my dad woke up with a rattlesnake in his sleeping bag (they slept right outside, under the stars, like cowboys do) – fortunately walked away without a scratch
- Taylor was bucked off his horse, and broke his collarbone, and they had to end the week long trip 3 days early
It was pretty much just like “City Slickers”, but in real life.
And from there my love of country music started to flourish. My dad and I started going to concerts, and when he dropped me off at school we would jam to Toby Keith or Alan Jackson. It was awesome.
On top of that my mom’s side of the family is from Kentucky. I probably don’t have to tell you much more than that, but just for fun. My great-grandaddy owned a farm. As kids we would go visit him and my great-granny. They would show us around the farm, and we would run around trying to catch lightning bugs. We would go on hayrides. It was awesome!
But what I really love about country music is the stories that are told. I love lyrics, and listening to country music simply puts a smile on my face, and makes me want to kick up my boots. Which brings me to the fact that I love to dance, especially line dance!
So, with that, here is my playlist of some of my all time favorite country songs:

I tend to listen to my country music playlist the most in the summer, probably because country music makes me want to roll my windows down, and drive.

I am going to start listening to country music now! I’ll have to download these to get my playlist started
